The Better Days
A couple nights ago I was listening to an old Deep Dish Essential Mix from back in ’98. One of my favorite parts of the mix is when they break it down to nothing but Cevin Fisher talking about the better days. I find the lyrics to be oh so bitter sweet. Here’s the original by Danny Tenaglia for your listening pleasure.
The Better Days
When I look back into the days,
the better days.
Things would be so smooth.
People were dancin’
People were smilin’
The music was pumpin’
There was a feeling.
Life was a party.
The party was life.
But somehow… things change.
It just don’t feel the same.
Have you ever thought about the days,
you know… the better days.
Do you ever try to come up with the ways,
you know… the better ways.
To make it feel like it did,
in the better days.

Greener Grass is my latest promotional mix for the Summer of 2011. This is also the first mix I’ve ever mastered. The first 3 tracks are a nice warm-up/groove. From there I cut straight to positive higher energy tracks. Most of these tracks I played at our first TWISTED by the Pool Party.

Summertime Is Here
Summertime – Jazzy Jeff & The Fresh Prince (JoshuaCarl mix) on Vimeo.
Yes it’s hot. But isn’t that what summer is? Make the most out of it. Dress light. Pull out those dusty sandals. Every chance you get jump into a pool, lake, river, or slip’n slide. Fire up the grill. Sip on a mojito. Lay back and enjoy it cause it’s summertime.
Let’s Go Back: 90′s Rap Part 2
You can’t go wrong with a little Rump Shaker by WRECKX-N-EFFECT.
What made me think of this 90′s classic “Whoomp There It Is” was the original “I’m Ready” which was released back in 1980 by Kano. Check it out below. (more…)
James Zabiela Introduces The DJM 900 Nexus
With all the new dj software and midi controllers coming out these days I was pretty impressed when I saw what the new Pioneer DJM 900 nexus is capable of. There is something so nice about getting what you need straight from the mixer without the need of a computer. However this mixer is also pretty amazing when pairing up with a laptop. The DJM 900 nexus is equipped with a high-end 24bit/96khz sound card that can simultaneously input/output stereo sound from 4 inputs/outputs. The 900 nexus is also Traktor Scratch certified. I see this mixer being an all around good investment and have no doubt it will continue as an industry standard.
Take a minute and watch James Zabiela show you what this mixer is capable of.
Jurassic Park Theme Time Stretched 1000%
Ok so even if this has been shared 1000 times. I still thought it was worth a post. Who would have thought time stretching the theme song to a movie could be so beautiful. The original Jurassic Park full length theme song is just under 8 minutes. However after being time stretched 1000% it plays out to almost an hour.
