The Wilderness Downtown
This has to be one of the most inspiring things I’ve seen done on the web and in a browser since Flash was at its peak. This gives me a lot of hope for HTML5. Make sure when you select an address you choose an address you lived at for years. With out a real address you once lived at you loose the connection between you and the video. My first time viewing it I messed up my address and got somewhere in Mexico. You must view this film in Safari 5 or Google Chrome. I’ve played it in both browsers and Safari is most definitely the best. It plays smoother and also has a few effects that chrome doesn’t even though it says it was built for chrome.
Enjoy the not so distant future of the web.
Don’t forget to open this in Safari 5 or Google Chrome.
Twitter’s Official Tweet Button
Yes it’s true. Twitter released an official tweet button on August 12th. The new button give users the ability to share content quickly since you no longer need third party access. Another feature of the official button includes a retweet counter which can be disabled if you like. Above is a video explaining all the details of the official Twitter Button.
Google Wave Is No More
It’s official as of 8/04/2010 02:00PM. Google has put Wave to rest.
“Wave has not seen the user adoption we would have liked. We don’t plan to continue developing Wave as a standalone product, but we will maintain the site at least through the end of the year and extend the technology for use in other Google projects.”
– Urs Hölzle, Senior Vice President, Operations & Google Fellow
I think Google Wave was a great idea and used amazing new technologies in our everyday browsers, but it wasn’t easy enough to use or understand for the average internet user. I even had a hard time understanding it all. I watched videos and was invited by friends to try it, but never saw a reason or an opportunity to use it. I’m sure the hard core Google fans loved it and adapted to it quickly.
Google is keeping a lot of the technology they developed in Wave open source so programmers can continue the innovation they began.

Her portfolio is a highly customized SlideShow Pro component connected to a director CMS. The CMS gives her full control of her portfolio allowing her to add images, video, albums, and the ability to setup a password protected gallery for a specific client. Her site also includes a newsletter sign up form. When someone enters their info it is automatically added to the newsletter database.
Starting All Over Again

Every time a new Flash project comes my way I wonder, “Should I try and build this one using AS3?”. Actionscript 2 is now becoming outdated leaving me in the dust. I have to admit trying to learn AS3 is pretty much like starting all over again. I struggle to do the most simplest of things. Things I’ve done time and time again using AS2.
In hopes or teaching myself I have been using lynda.com. Lynda is a great learning tool and allows you to learn a lot quickly but, it doesn’t teach you everything in great detail. Hoping of picking up some more detailed information I remember purchasing the O’Reilly’s ActionScript: The Definitive Guide years back when it all started. O’Reilly makes great quick reference books that give highly detailed information.
So last night I made a trip over to Borders and picked up Essential ActionScript 3.0. I’ll keep you posted on my success wtih AS3. If you are in or have been in this same situation I would love to hear how you made the transition and what resources may have helped.
